The The-Ah-Tuh

Tintypes is a really incredible work. I am usually not one for musical revues, but this one was terrific. It's the sort of show that you wish junior high and high school students had attended, because it just made you want to learn more about some of the historical figures and situations that it covers. The only negative about this production was that not enough people saw the performances, because it was an incredible production.

Our task was to prepare and produce a 'backdrop' for the show -- both the silent movie "title cards" and tintype photography depicting various scenes in the show.

The title cards were made using Photoshop initially to create the individual graphics, which were then imported into iMovie with a filter to add scratches, feathers, dust, etc. to give it that 'silent movie' look. Each iMovie was then imported as a slide into PowerPoint which was used to actually run the show.

The "slide shows" of tintypes were a collection of photography, found all over, which I cleaned up (in some cases) and sepia-toned, then compiled into an animation using Flash MX.

Dawn and I spent each performance in the scene shot of the theatre, dressed in black, in darkness, hiding behind a board. We operated two macintosh laptops, connected to a projector, and were signaled for each cue by the able Linda Rubin. The projector displayed the image on a black scrim at the rear of the stage throughout much of the play.

Below are links to the flash animations I did. Hopefully I can get Dawn's powerpoint iMovie title cards here soon too.

If you'd like to see the photos I took of the production, you can view them at Snapfish here:
