They are entertaining little varmints. They are extremely social, and
chatter and squeal to warn the rest of their colony about impending danger
(such as two insane women with cameras), or a swooping hawk. They will
run into their neighbor's burrow if danger seems imminent.
Prairie Dogs aren't really the most photogenic of critters, so here are
just a few shots of them cavorting in a colony in some large park in
Lubbock, Texas.

Call us crazy... but after seeing the Texas Highways article
on prairie dogs, we just had to go see some of them. So, we hopped
into Delores del Sol and trekked out west to Lubbock.
