Santa Fe, NM 2003

Saturday, August 2, in Santa Fe, spent visiting shops, and finally the opera.

Some lovely houses that we "windowshopped"

A roadside shrine

The small chapel above the roadside shrine

Just more houses...

Oops... this must still be Friday... it's the moon that evening.

Now it's Saturday morning, and we're touring Our Lady of Guadalupe (within walking distance of our b&b), the oldest shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe in the US

The painting over the altar

closeup of our lady

The old chapel doors... the place was under major renovations.

A tile version

A gesso shrine

This was cool... Psalms 62 translated into spanish and two different Native American tongues.

The crucifix that was on the wall

Old bell, cracked in a fire they'd suffered.

Another view of the outside

Our trusty Mustang steed...

Cool architecture

Hawkquest was at a big Crafts fair that was going on in the Plaza, beautiful bald eagle

...owl

Some other type of hawk

Entrance to the Santa Fe Opera house

Looking down from parking lot to the highway

Another view

Dawn and I are eating our romantic "picnic" dinner... I planned everything except the fact that it was raining and they have no covered shelters for these expensive catered picnic dinners! But it was actually pretty funny eating here on the bench by the box office anyway!
A view of one wing of the Santa Fe Opera House. This place is just fantastic, and the opera was terrific. Very funny, the story of Helen of Troy which was staged "modern" -- most of the characters had this strange garb of part Greco-Roman attire with modern business suits and the like showing underneath.
