Santa
Fe, NM 2003
For Dawn's birthday, I decided to surprise her with a trip to Santa
Fe, New Mexico. I had called her boss and arranged for her to have the
day off. I didn't tell her anything other than "you have something planned
on Friday", which was the day after her birthday.
Thursday night I told her what things she needed to pack and that we were going somewhere in the morning. Friday morning, we drove
to DFW airport and boarded a plane for Albuquerque. She still had no idea what we were doing. Finally she figured out "Santa Fe"
but still didn't know the real surprise, an evening at the Santa Fe Opera where Susan Graham (who Dawn sang with in college) was
starring in "La Belle Helene".

Even the outlet malls are gorgeous |

here I am again. I sure love convertibles. |

Some outlet mall, in adobe style... |

At dinner, we saw the most wonderful blown glass jellyfish in a
display with a card pointing us to this gallery... all we could
see on the tag was $60. |

$60! oh my! I must have one! It's really one of the most wonderful
things I've ever seen, and I don't recall ever lusting after a little
tchotzke like this before... |

Alas... the price was apparently $600, as the examples at the gallery
were $450 and up. I couldn't enjoy a $600 glass thing that could
easily be shattered, just couldn't. Darn it. It's still beautiful. |
