Oh Look! that nice driver is WAVING at me!Is this you? Are you one of those drivers that sees a line of traffic patiently queued up for an exit ramp off the freeway, who then thinks "hmmm! a traffic jam! not for me of course, I'll just tear on up the shoulder and force my way back in line in front of all these nice folks who sat patiently in line already!" I believe in the sanctity of the voluntary traffic flow merge. I always let at least one car merge in front of me in such situations, unless they are one of these shoulder-racers, or even one of the drivers that stays on a legitimate lane but attempts to squeeze in front of the queued up right-lane line for the exit. In those cases, hell will freeze over before you wedge that bumper in front of me!
