Puerto Vallarta, June 9 - 14, 2002
Monday, June 10, 2002At 3:00pm we attended a very brief and simplistic spanish lesson, and then Dawn got a henna tattoo on the back of one leg, which looks rather cool. I told her it was just like getting a real tattoo, except without the annoying mosquito pain and the blood, but otherwise, hey, it's real.
At 6:00pm we took El Rumbalero to the sister Blue Bay Club resort (further up the bay towards Mismaloya) to see the lunar eclipse. I specifically asked the bus driver, when we left, what time we should be at the bus for the return, and he told me 8:30. Yes, this was all in spanish, and I'm a bit rusty, but I do know what ocho y media means. It was very overcast, and we never saw a thing, so around 8:15 we headed back up to 'ground level' (the lobby was up at road level, and then you took an elevator down six floors to the beach level) to catch the bus, only to discover that they had left at 8:00pm. When I asked how we were supposed to get back, they told me I could take a taxi. I threw a mild little fit and told them they'd be paying for the taxi since the bus driver had told me the wrong time. It ends up that there was another bus scheduled for 8:45, so we just waited at ground level on the seashore side for that. While there... surprise! the eclipse happened! It was terrific. Did we get any pictures? I don't believe so, darn it, although there might be something on the video to check later.
The bus didn't leave until around 9:30pm, but it was okay. Rode back with some great wild rather drunk and crazy couples from Liverpool, and several Canadians. US citizens are in short supply, it's mostly British and Canadians with some Mexicans thrown in, but still everywhere you go, if you're American, you get grief about how "you must be rich!" because you're a tourist and spending money. Oh well. > Our hotel was hosting a "Best Legs Man" contest (Yoda speak!) and we watched that a bit, which was rather funny. |
