Pond

A lot more information, and more up to date details, about the pond is now located on its own web site (same humble web server, but different site) at www.pondkat.com. Please visit there as well!

The initial plans for the back yard ponds. Some of this has been changed (the koi pond and the water garden pond have been reversed due to locations of existing plumbing and sewer lines; we've added a stream running around the left side of the eatin' deck and rejoining the lower pond), but it provides a good view of where we're going.

The back yard was initially sort of a shadowy overgrown jungle of trash trees and ground cover. A number of trash trees were removed, and the old dead mimosa tree cut down at a 4 foot height by the tree surgeons we hired.

A view of the backyard showing the mimosa stump.

Another view looking out toward the dog run. In the foreground is the original glass-brick patio, and the boxed-in ground cover that's run amuck.

The initial hard liner pond, shown in the fall of 2000. Winter 2000 Dawn got worried about the temperatures and moved the pond plants and its two shubunkin residents into our downstairs clawfoot tub, where they lived throughout the winter until June 2001.

Have I mentioned how happy I am that they are no longer in the tub?

Status of pond digging as of 07/17/2001. The berm has been piled up, sod removed and relocated to some bare patches in the front of the house. Due to the shadows, you unfortunately can't see how much I've dug up, so I'll have to take another shot tomorrow.
