The crew eating breakfast at the Bright Angel Lodge in Grand Canyon Village,
before we set out on our last day on the rim. From the windows, you can
see the mule teams gathering for the treks down the Bright Angel trail to
the bottom of the canyon.

We awoke at the Kachina Lodge, and this morning was clear and bright. The
canyon looked splendid and completely different under this light. We walked
along the rim, enjoying the view.
Early in the morning, it's quite peaceful and quiet along the canyon walk
near the Village. On this morning, we were admiring the view, and a guy
walked up near us, stood looking at the view for awhile, and then commemorated
the moment by hawking up a loogie... which he attempted to spit into the
canyon, of course, but since his aim was as perfect as his manners, it
landed on the railing wall next to us. How pleasant. It must be a
chromosome thing with men, this spitting gene...
We drove the west rim and looked at the
"Abyss" of the Canyon.

From here you can see the Grand Canyon Village where we stayed. The Kachina
Lodge is one of the flat buildings to the left in this picture.

At one stop on the rim, a small family of mule deer approached us all.
There are signs posted prominently throughout the park telling how they'd
had to euthanize about a dozen deer already this year because they had
gotten used to being fed by visitors, started eating the trash left behind, and
had ingested so much plastic that they could no longer get nourishment and
were starving. A band of idiots at the same pullover had to start chasing down
these deer with cameras and chip bags...

Next in our idiot series is this tourist who disregarded the OTHER
prominently displayed signs warning about the dozen or so tourists who
tumble into the canyon and die because they were aching for that perfect
photo. Here's one such fellow who climbed over the railing and hiked out
on a rock cropping.

Before we left the park, we posed for a group shot at the Grand Canyon sign.
It's a bit skewed because my digital camera on auto-shoot requires that you
set it upside-down, making it very difficult to guesstimate where the focus
point will be... but we're all in there!

On the way out of the park, we stopped off in an even better patch of snow.
The kids, especially Amber, loved the snow. Amber made a snow angel, and
we all had a good round of snowball fights. I love this picture of
Ellen, Eric and Dad in the snow!
